Like virtually every other city, of course, San Sebastian, Bristol and Florence city have already undertaken many initiatives to reduce their energy consumption, but these have typically been aimed at a specific sector or objective, overlooking the impact that these may be causing on other sectors. The three partner cities have decided to join together to improve efficiency along all the key aspects of the ‘energy value chain’, applying smart city concepts in an integrated manner and learning from each other’s expertise.
STEEP is funded under the European Commission’s ‘FP7’ funding stream and runs for two years between October 2013 and September 2015.
The methodology that we develop in Year 1 will be scaled up to city-level in Year 2, with the aim of developing ‘smart city’ plans based on the same approach. At the end of the project , the tested methodology will be available for other cities to use.
